Situated between Cleveland and Akron is one of the best parks in Ohio. Cuyahoga is one of the least visited National Parks, and is often overlooked by visitors to the state of Ohio. Don’t make that mistake! You can view several amazing waterfalls and take plenty of hikes or bike rides here on the trails. The park has miles and miles of trails.
While not on the caliber of Yellowstone or the Grand Canyon, this park is still an amazing place to spend the day. Be sure to stop by the visitor’s center to pick up a map so that you can plan your hikes to the various waterfalls in the park. Some of the best stops include:
- The Ledges: a unique 1.8 mile hiking experience through rock formations and staircases, with viewpoints along the way.
- Beaver Marsh: the best wildlife viewing in the park along a boardwalk. Spring or early summer is the best time to spot beavers.
- Brandywine falls: the biggest waterfall in the park. The parking area is currently closed (2022). You can access the falls through one of the connecting trails.
If you would rather view this park by train, you can also ride the Cuyahoga Scenic Railroad. They have various different rides throughout the seasons. Tickets run from $5-$25 per person. You can look up their current rides by checking out the website.
This park is so close to the city, and yet is has a remote feeling. If you are looking to escape some of the city hustle and bustle, it is worth the drive out to Cuyahoga.
