SANDUSKY AND CEDAR POINT
Sandusky is on the shores of Lake Erie about an hour east of Toledo and is known for its family attractions, including water, wildlife and amusement parks. There is much to do and see in this area so make sure you have enough time to experience everything.
Cedar Point has 18 world class roller coasters – so there’s a riding thrill for every member of the family. They have the tallest, fastest and longest hybrid roller coaster in the world – “Steel Vengeance” down to the perfect starting coaster with Woodstock Express. There are over 150 rides along with daily shows and many other attractions. With areas based on the “Peanuts” theme, kids young and old will enjoy a day out at Cedar Point. They have several all inclusive packages with accommodation and park entry (and Cedar Point Shores access). Along with great restaurants, Cedar Point is the perfect family getaway!
Castaway Bay is a tropical, Caribbean themed indoor waterpark resort. Featuring a “Wave Pool” where you can body surf, tube slides, water roller coaster, a grotto spa to relax in and various kids play areas you’ll feel like you’re vacationing on a tropical island! There is also comfortable accommodation on the door step that you can combine in an inclusive package.
Lake Erie Island Cruises operate during the summer months – from the last week of June to the last week of September -aboard the Goodtime I. There are a variety of cruises suiting families and Friday night party revellers over 21 years. They tour around the Put-in-Bay area.
Kalahari Resort and Convention is another indoor waterpark that also offers tube rides and slides, African adventure animal park, mini golf, mini bowling, laser tag (my favourite), a virtual reality world along with a 7D theater as well as many other activities and attractions. There is also a Halotherapy (salt therapy) room and a flotation bath where you can shut out the outside world and truly relax. Along with a fitness and training centre and a day spa for you and your children, Kalahari offers everything your vacation would need in one spot.
Merry-Go-Round Museum features a working vintage carousel and restored wooden animal figures and ponies. For the child in us all, this museum has many original pieces being restored using historically accurate techniques. Spend some time with one of the experienced carvers and see how they restore these beautiful pieces of art.
Sandusky Speedway is a car race track just south of Sandusky in Perkins Township. Here you will be able to purchase a driving experience (I recommend at least 10 laps if your budget allows) or a ride along experience – in one of the fastest cars you’ll ever get into. Get in and hang on tight along this 1/2 mile race track. On Saturday’s the track turns into the Speedway with truck and stock car racing.
Sprawling Cedar Point park is renowned for its many roller coasters. The Merry-Go-Round Museum features a working vintage carousel and restored wooden animals. The Maritime Museum of Sandusky has exhibits on boatbuilding, shipwrecks and ice harvesting.
Toledo is a city which offers many things to explore. It has a large number of tourist attractions such as the Butterfly house, The Merry-Go-Round Museum, Toledo Museum, Toledo Botanical garden, Toledo Zoo, Historic Westend with Old Victorian Homes.
There is small nearby island called Put-In-Bay which attracts large number of tourists in summer despite its small population. Here you may visit the Monument Of Perry Victoria and International Peace Memorial which is a Scenic park with a 352-ft.-tall column dedicated to those who fought in the Battle of Lake Erie.
